Farmer's market bounty

Heirloom cherry tomatoes ...

... sweet basil, and ...

... oyster mushrooms! (OK, the mushrooms are a little hard to see.)

Finding myself actually awake and dressed before noon on a Sunday, I decided to walk over to the farmers' market (in Hyde Park, to be known henceforth as Oakley near) to see what I could see. $9.50 got me this lovely produce, which I am bound and determined to use before it spoils for once. (Wilting bunch of kale in the fridge, this is for you.)

You can stir-fry kale in a little bacon grease and wilt it even more -- in the most delicious way! OK, you can use olive oil.

I'm guilty of letting things go bad before I use them. I'm trying to be better about making a plan to use them as soon as I get home. But even then, sometimes I forget!

Hey, I'm hosting a Farmer's Market Report. Maybe you'd like to submit this post? Come on over and check it out: http://toeverymeal.blogspot.com/2008/08/farmers-market-report-august-23rd.html

Hey, thanks, Kerry! I'm actually planning another post or two where I describe what I did with the food. Perhaps I'll submit them all together.

A really great source for farmer's market information in my area is Cincinnati Locavore. If you're looking for more farmer's market posts for your blog, definitely check her out.
